Clarkston lady charged in theft of $42K in fraudulent automobile insurance coverage declare – FOX 2 DetroitAugust 18, 2022
CLARKSTON, Mich. (FOX 2) – A 32-year-old lady from Clarkston was arraigned for auto insurance coverage fraud after receiving over $42,000 from a false declare.
Brittany Brown reported in 2020 that her automobile was stolen and allegedly filed a false insurance coverage declare with State Farm Insurance coverage.
She is accused of falsely stating that there was no lien on her automobile and that she had put in wheelchair gear on it, mentioned the Legal professional Basic's workplace. Brown can be accused of knowingly submitting a solid title to State Farm Insurance coverage that hid the lien.
"Individuals who commit insurance coverage fraud have a possible impression on all drivers in Michigan," mentioned AG Dana Nessel. "My division is dedicated to pursuing these circumstances and holding accountable those that defraud the system."
Brown obtained over $42,000 from State Farm Insurance coverage on this fraudulent insurance coverage declare. The case was pursued, and the cash was recovered by the Michigan Division of Insurance coverage and Monetary Providers (DIFS) Fraud Investigation Unit (FIU) in collaboration with the Division of Legal professional Basic.
"Mendacity to an insurance coverage firm with the intention to obtain more cash for a declare than is warranted is a criminal offense and may drive up insurance coverage premiums for all Michiganders," mentioned DIFS Director Anita Fox.
Brown was arraigned on three felonies:
A possible trigger convention is scheduled for August 26 and a preliminary examination is scheduled for August 31.
